A contemporary portrait inspired by kintsugi, *Ophélia* explores the rift between one’s true identity and an imposed role. Golden scars crisscross the face like the traces of a fragile reconstruction, echoing the figure of Ophelia in Hamlet: a woman trapped by the expectations of others until she descends into madness. Under black light, a skull appears as a contemporary vanitas, a silent reminder of the loss of self when we spend our lives becoming what others expect of us.

A contemporary portrait inspired by kintsugi, Ophelia explores how societal pressures and expectations shape, and ultimately fracture identity. The face bears golden lines resembling visible repairs, as if inner wounds had become an integral part of the reconstruction. Inspired by a photograph by Camille Brulé and named after the character of Ophelia in Hamlet, the work evokes this slow disappearance of the self caused by the need to be gentle, wise, and compliant, to the point of psychological breakdown. Under black light, a skull appears in the portrait: a modern vanitas that reveals what we try to hide mental fragility, the gradual erasure of identity, and the symbolic death inherent in constantly living through the eyes of others.
