Under normal light, “Defiance” shows a confident face; but under black light, a tear and bonds appear, revealing what confidence sometimes hides: fragility, fears, and doubts.

“Defiance” explores the mask of identity and the boundary between the visible and the invisible. Under natural light, the face appears confident: the light draws a mask of strength, while the shadow, blurred and streaked, blurs the contours of its vulnerability. But under black light, another truth emerges—a tear and bonds around the neck, painted with UV ink. What seemed like power then becomes tension, restraint. The work questions what we choose to show and what, in the invisible, chains us.
